MENS SINGLES
In the top half of the draw, Richard Ward claimed his place in the semis with a straight sets
win against Panos Kontogiannis. Dave Winship also progressed to the last four with a straight
sets win against Neil Douglas, one of the club's most improved juniors. The semi-final started
in bright sunshine and temperatures in the eighties and finished in fading light when Dave
finally overcame Richard 6-4 2-6 6-3.
In the bottom half of the draw, Charles Freeman recorded a good quarter-final win over Paul
Flood, and Loyd Parks recovered from a set and 0-2 down to beat Trevor Gray in a twilight
marathon. Charles prevailed 6-3 7-5 in the semi-final.
The final was played on a bright, breezy afternoon on September 15th. Dave asked quite a
few questions, but Charles came up with all the answers. It was an almost faultless display
from Charles, who won 6-1 6-1 in an hour and twenty minutes.

LADIES SINGLES
Kate Balls took the title for the second time, beating Beryl Bartley 6-4 6-0 in the final.
The match swung Kate's way at 4-4 in the first set. After securing the first set, she relaxed
and played some very convincing tennis throughout the rest of the match.

MENS DOUBLES

recovered to reach the final for the second time in three years. Charles Freeman and Richard

Richard successfully defended their title. The score was 7-5 7-5.
LADIES DOUBLES
The semis featured a marathon match as Katie Balls and her partner Michelle Olive squeezed
through against Beryl Bartley and Svetlana Mukhamedjakova. The final was also a very closely
contested affair. Kate and Michelle beat Jane Ashworth and Yvonne Parks in three long sets to
take the title.
MIXED DOUBLES
Katie Balls and Trevor Gray disposed of Dave Winship and Ellie Fry in the semis before
succumbing to the power play of Charles Freeman and Jane Ashworth in the final.

Zaeem Bajwa carried off the U12 Boys title held last year by his brother. Alex Poulden gave
everything he had, but could not make headway as Zaeem ran out a comfortable 6-1 6-1 winner.

Alice Walker took the U18 Girls' title with a 6-7 6-4 6-3 win over Celine Cheng.

Ollie Fry and Warren Cheng provided great entertainment as they threw everything at Sam
Hashimzai and Neil Douglas in the Boys Doubles final, but the older pair eventually prevailed
